We adopted Lieutenant Dan, about two years ago from a rescue in Florida. We had seen his profile online and just knew that we had to give him the best chance of having the most happy life and long life possible. 

We knew that both his hind limbs and his tail were deformed, but did not know the extent of his deformity or if it could be corrected. We brought him home here to Ohio. Had him evaluated by multiple veterinary specialists. Unfortunately, [his deformity] was not something that could be corrected. So, it was recommended at six months of age to amputate his hind limbs and tail. Since his amputation and following his healing process, which was rather extensive, we did deal with some complications. But following that he has done phenomenally.

He has been such a happy boy. He loves every single day to the fullest. His smile, his personality, his overall joy for life is absolutely infectious. You cannot have a bad day being around this dog. He brings so much joy to every single day for us and our family. And we also love the amount of joy and inspiration he can bring to others who might have handicapable pets. To understand that they can still have a great, awesome life and giving them a chance is important, or even some people who might be handicapable themselves. And the inspiration he brings to them is amazing.
