Tonka was born to inexperienced breeders in the state of Texas. He suffers from congenital bilateral elbow luxation. [The breeders] couldn’t afford his care, so they surrendered him to a rescue that could try and help give him a life where he could flourish. He was brought to Connecticut by another rescue to help find him a surgeon that could provide his life-changing surgery. 

He recovered and rehabbed in an amazing foster home with amazing foster parents. Tonka’s physical therapy and rehabilitation continued after I adopted him.  His first sister Roxy was key in helping him with his therapy in a way that no human exercises ever could. He was able to overcome so much and become so strong because of how she played with him. 

He’s flourished since being with us, he has a never give up attitude and pushes himself to try new things all the time. I feel truly blessed to have Tonka in my life. It really is quite an honor to have a dog that is so driven and brings inspiration to not only other humans with pets that also have special needs, but to people that struggled with disabilities themselves. Tonka has come a long way from being unable to walk to going on hikes with his human family now.
