A police officer’s motto is to protect and serve. But this police officer took that the extra mile and included getting a helpless kitten off the streets. The kitten was in extreme danger, so the officer went straight to work!
A Jeep, Police Officer, And a Kitten
In Charleston, South Carolina, Officer Batiz was on duty when he received a call about a kitten stuck in a Jeep. And when Officer Batiz arrived, he learned that the kitten was stuck within the engine.
Cats and Car Engines
Kittens and cats like to crawl up into a car’s engine to keep warm. It’s less common in the summer but much more common in the winter. But to prevent injury to a cat, tap on the hood of your car before starting it. This usually alerts the cat and startles them out of the car and out of harm’s way.
Also, check your tires. Sometimes cats like to curl up on the top of tires to keep themselves dry and out of the elements.
Another officer arrived on the scene and helped Batiz get the kitten out of the engine safe and sound! Officer Batiz searched the local area for an owner, but no one claimed the little black kitty. Since it was pretty late in the day, he offered to take the kitten home for the night until they could get to an animal shelter in the morning.
Officer Crosby Adopts ‘Clover’
In the morning, another officer, Officer Crosby, picked up the kitten and headed to the nearest animal shelter to check for a microchip. It turns out the kitten didn’t have a microchip salt meaning it was likely born on the streets. But the shelter aided in getting the little floof medical aid and its first round of shots. Since the kitten didn’t have an owner, she would go up for adoption.
But she had already won over her furever human and Crosby decided to adopt it for himself! He named the little girl Clover. What an adorable name!
The Charleston Police Department posted the incident on their Facebook page, and the post went wild!
“Officer Batiz made a new friend! Last week, the team 2 Officer responded to a call about a kitten inside a jeep engine. After securing the kitten, and not finding an owner, he put her in his police cruiser and offered to take her home for the night. The next day, another team 2 officer, Officer Crosby, took the kitten to the animal shelter, checked for a microchip, got all her shots and adopted the kitten! He decided to name her Clover. We’re happy she was able to find a good home! ” the post said.
In response, someone on Facebook replied:
“What a sweet, heartwarming story! Thank you for sharing the human side of your officers. Please continue to post stories of this kitten, and it’s new life with Officer Crosby. Our community needs to continue to see these beautiful stories of our brave officers.”
“Clover will bring Officer Crosby the best of luck. He is a kind man,” said another Facebook user.
Thank you, Officers Batiz and Crosby, for giving this adorable kitten another chance at life!
