Tuesday night after work, Dustin DeRoche and his colleague were returning to their cars when suddenly a little cat came bounding up to them. DeRoche grabbed up the cat and began hugging him since he appeared so eager and friendly straight away. The little kitten started purring right away. DeRoche felt there was no way he could leave the poor cat behind in that parking lot as he was coated in fleas and was gasping.

DeRoche made the choice to bring the kitten, subsequently given the name Chuck, home with him for the evening and to the veterinarian the following morning. Chuck had no problem getting into the car with his new friend, and seemed content that he had finally found someone to help him.

“He slept on my lap the whole way home, a 20-minute car ride,” DeRoche told The Dodo.

After they arrived to their house, DeRoche’s friend Melissa Lee stopped by, and the two started cleaning up Chuck. He was obviously fatigued and was overjoyed to find a warm, secure place to sleep at last.

According to Lee, “He seemed really at ease in the house, napping quite a bit.” As Dustin prepared a bath, “I cuddled him for a bit and he purred/fell asleep instantly.”

They gave Chuck a flea wash, cleaned him up as much as they could with a brush, and then dried him off with a soft towel. Chuck enjoyed it so much that he fell asleep right away when DeRoche decided to wrap him up like a burrito to make him feel secure and comfortable.

The two friends enjoyed how peaceful and content Chuck appeared while wrapped in the towel and allowed him to sleep in that position for a time. After some while, he awoke and briefly played with his new buddies since he was so at ease in his new existence.

For a kitten, his demeanor “looks quite laid-back, yet he’s really interested and lively,” Lee added.

The following day, DeRoche brought Chuck to the veterinarian, who estimated the kitten’s age to be between 9 and 10 weeks. Chuck had a thorough flea treatment, vaccinations, and respiratory infection medicine from the veterinarian. Despite the rough condition he was found in, the vet assured DeRoche that Chuck was going to be just fine, and would be completely recovered in no time.

Chuck will eventually need a new home because DeRoche already has cats of his own, and he has already had several inquiries for the little kitten. Chuck is enjoying every second of his foster home in the meanwhile, feeling snug as a bug, snuggling with his foster father, and at last feeling safe and loved.
