Keanu was rescued as a kitten from an industrial warehouse where his mother was working at the time. He was shy at first, but he rapidly came out of his shell, and he’s now the friendliest cat in the neighborhood.
“He’s wary for the first five seconds he meets someone, then he’s instantaneously their best friend,” Keanu’s mother, Dani Baker, told The Dodo. “When he’s not hiding, Keanu enjoys finding lizards and hiding them (alive and physically uninjured) in his father’s shoes, gym bag, work bag, and so on.”
Despite his extroverted personality, one of Keanu’s favorite pastimes is hiding everywhere he can. He prefers to be able to watch things quietly. Keanu appears to believe he is an expert at concealing, despite the reality that his abilities still require improvement.
“[He] hides in various places,” Baker explained. “Depending on the furniture around him, he gets creative.” But it’s always in the room when his father is present. We joke that Keanu is always spying on his father or keeping a close eye on him.”
Keanu can always find a fun place to hide, whether it’s behind a table or in the open dishwasher. Even though his family can see him most of the time, it rapidly became evident that Keanu isn’t aware of this. Every time, he thinks he’s completely concealed.
“[He thinks] we absolutely can not see him,” Baker explained. “We call to him (and he usually meows back), but he doesn’t reply while he’s hiding.” Even if we tap his feet to alert him that we are aware of his presence, he will not move.”
Keanu is desperate to maintain his sly reputation. Even if his family can still see him, he doesn’t believe they can, and that’s all that matters. He hides sometimes to take a little quiet snooze, sometimes to watch his family eat, and sometimes just to maintain an uninterrupted check on everything. He always has a reason for everything.
Keanu enjoys hiding, and his family enjoys laughing at his adorable attempts to hide, so it all works out in the end.
