Sir Nick Fury has always resembled a dog rather than a cat. He enjoys playing catch, meeting new people, giving high fives, and, of course, going on leash walks. When his mother initially started bringing him on walks, she was concerned that he might run away and get into something he shouldn’t. What was her solution? She got him a set of bat wings so he can fly about and she won’t have to worry about him getting into areas he shouldn’t be.

Nick and his mother were out on a stroll around two years ago when he noticed the neighbor’s cat, Shakira, prowling in the woods. She seemed a touch distant at first, but Nick was not. He knew she was his future best buddy the moment he saw her.

“Nick wanted to be buddies right away,” Nick’s mother, Shelby Hyman, told The Dodo. “Shakira was really shy when we initially met her, but Nick persisted.” I saw that as soon as he put on his bat wings, she became significantly more interested and friendly. “I learned she adores them!”

After that, Nick and Shakira began spending virtually every day together. He always looked for her on his walks, and if he couldn’t locate her for whatever reason, he made a point of letting her know he was around so she could come out and play.

“On the days when we couldn’t find her, he’d scream out for her,” Hyman explained. “She’d often be lurking in the woods or on her patio, and as soon as she’d expose herself, Nick would race over to her with his tiny bat wings fluttering and be all chirpy.” It was adorable!”

Shakira’s owner was well aware of her and Nick’s bond and even arranged for Nick’s family to look after her for a summer while she was gone. A few weeks ago, Hyman’s neighbor saw her and delivered some bad news. She was relocating due to health concerns and was unable to take Shakira with her, so she planned to give her to a shelter.

“When she revealed she’d previously contacted a shelter agency because she couldn’t keep Shakira,” Hyman said, “I shouted out, ‘Give her to me.” “I made a snap choice. My kid thought I was insane, but I never questioned my decision.”

Hyman, Nick, and the entire family had fallen in love with Shakira through the years. She realized there was no way they could say goodbye, so she adopted her as a part of the family. In any case, she’d always been an honorary member. It was now official.

Sharkia is adjusting in nicely to her new home thus far. She enjoys sharing her home with Nick and the family’s second cat, Neo. She’s still a bit hesitant, but she’s warming up to everyone, and no one — especially Nick — can picture life without her.

“Adopting her and bringing her into our family was the best choice we’ve ever made,” Hyman added. “She seemed to be relieved not to be alone. “I honestly believe it was meant to be.”
