Purple Kitten Rescued From Life As A Living Chew Toy

No one knows for sure what happened in Smurf’s early weeks, but his damaged physique and terrified eyes hint to unspeakable horrors.
His spirit, on the other hand, is unharmed.
This week, a cute but terrified kitten, estimated to be less than two months old, was dropped off at a San Jose animal shelter. Staff quickly noticed his body was covered with severe bite scars and abrasions, despite the fact that his fur had been dyed a rich shade of purple.
Rather than euthanizing Smurf, the shelter notified Monica Rudiger’s Nine Lives Foundation, a rescue organization for wounded and neglected cats.
The injuries sustained by the small animal were consistent with a terrible but little-known practice: humans using kittens as live bait for fighting canines.
“I have no idea what happened to him, but I believe he was used as a chew toy. A cat with several puncture wounds and abrasions lives with us “The Dodo reported on Rudiger’s comments. “He can’t tell us what happened to him, but this has occurred before. Kittens have been used as bait and chew toys for other animals. To me, it makes sense.”
More injuries were discovered after trimming his purple fur, including a nasty gash on his shoulder, all of which pointed to this type of maltreatment.
Rudiger claims that the use of kittens like Smurf for dog-fighting training isn’t unusual, but it’s usually avoidable.
“Every day, cats are utilized as bait for pit bulls in our region. It’s terrifying, to say the least “she stated “That’s why you shouldn’t give out free kittens online; they’ll use them for anything they want. Who knows what happened to Smurf? I’m curious about the other cats we won’t be able to save.”
Whatever the truth is about Smurf’s tragic past, someone saw fit to entrust him to those who care. It’s too early to say how fully he’ll heal, but he’ll almost certainly never be free of the scars of abuse.
“We’re never going to be able to get that purple color out of him. He’s shaved, but his hair is still purple. It’s really dark; it’s most likely undiluted clothing dye “Rudiger stated. “I hope everything works out for him, but he appears to be doing really well.”
As word of Smurf’s rescue spread, scores of individuals expressed interest in adopting him, but it will likely be months before he is healthy enough to be someone’s companion.
However, there are innumerable more cats in shelters that would be pleased to get the same offer.
