Willie Ortiz is a 76-year-old Puerto Rican guy who lives in Hartford, Connecticut and has a golden heart. Willie has been feeding the city’s homeless cats for the past 24 years.

Hartford, like most larger cities, has a vast cat population that is continually ignored by people.

Willie explained to The Dodo:

“I noticed a number of stray animals being pushed and kicked by people.”

This man has always wanted to assist these animals, but due to his inability to adopt them all, he began feeding them, castrating and sterilizing them, and when a cat becomes unwell, he takes them home and cares for them with great affection. He is also in charge of finding them homes.

Willy stated,

“They require assistance. I want to ensure that kids are fed and healthy.”

According to Kathleen Schlentz, a friend of this man’s, he is presently caring for 68 homeless cats spread throughout 16 colonies.

For almost 20 years, this generous guy has been caring for stray animals.
A colony is a group of cats living in the same place, such as a trash or an abandoned building.

Kathleen explained:

“Colonies are always shifting.” Cats are often injured by automobiles, other cats wander, or humans abandon them when they can’t or don’t want to care for them, thus colonies shift frequently.”

Willie is poor and spends his days collecting trash and cleaning gardens in order to pay for cat food. Fortunately, he enlists Kathleen’s assistance, who creates a website and a GoFundMe account for him to gather cash.

Kathleen explained:

“I’m not sure how he manages to work so hard physically. He’s been doing it for years, and the cats are fed on a daily basis.”

Kathleen continued, ”

“He is a very modest individual.” ‘Why does he waste his money on cats?’ others may ask. ‘Because they’re cats,’ he’ll remark.
