Cat Tries To Stop Parents From Going On Trip Without Her

On Wednesday, Nick Coole and his wife were on their way to New York to celebrate his 40th birthday when they were suddenly delayed by airport security.

They had made sure to pack light so that they would have enough room in their baggage to bring back mementos. What they didn’t understand was that one of their carry-ons was a little heavier than expected.

“Airport security was all quite confused and repeatedly inquired if the luggage was ours after it had gone through the scanner,” Coole told The Dodo.

Security personnel led the pair to a separate area off to the side. Coole’s wife, who was unsure what was wrong and impatient to board their trip, had an intuition:  “We were taken into a private room where my wife flagged, ‘I bet it’s a cat,’” Coole said. “‘It’s the only thing it can be.’”

When a security officer opened the Cooles’ bag, out sprang Candy, the Cooles’ 5-year-old cat, who was visibly upset at being left behind.

Candy, one of the Cooles’ three cats, has a particular flair at fitting inside bags and boxes. And that wasn’t the first time she’d grabbed a ride out of town in secret.

“She went missing for two weeks once, only to be located in a distant town when we were on vacation,” Coole explained. “We believe she got inside a construction vehicle.” She’s an expert at squeezing into tight spaces.”

The airport personnel had never seen anything like it before, but everyone pitched in to make sure Coole didn’t miss his important trip. Friends arrived and took up the tiny stowaway just in time for the pair to dash to their gate before the doors shut.

“The personnel were fantastic and assisted us in getting our Candy home so we could still make our trip,” Coole added.

Coole posted images of the encounter on Facebook after the unique travel experience. As of Wednesday, his post has received 4,500 likes and over 2,000 comments.

Candy is now waiting for her parents’ safe return from the comfort of her own house, while the Cooles are relieved to have a cat-free 40th birthday celebration.
