A woman arrived home to her faithful cat Chips the other day.
Chips’ feline brand of good humor and devil-may-care attitude were especially appreciated since Karen Miele was having a particularly bad week.
An envelope that had been dropped through the mail slot was not what Miele expected to cheer her up.
Chips adores resting on the windowsill of her home in Nottingham, UK, which looks out into the street. Chips had evidently grabbed someone’s eye while doing what she loves.
A wonderfully developed image of Chips staring out the window was found inside the mail. A little message was attached to the mail, which read:
“Your adorable kitty, for you. I’m always on the lookout for him. —Jean.”
Jean even went to the bother of writing the year the shot was taken on the back.
Miele thought, “What a great gesture.” So she snapped a picture of the message and tweeted it.
When tens of thousands of people viewed Miele’s photo of Jean’s wonderful message, their spirits were raised as well.
“I honestly didn’t expect to get more than about 5 likes!” Miele told The Dodo that her tweet had been favorited over 200,000 times by the time it was published. “I’m still stunned.”
Of course, Jean was completely unaware of the situation; she had never met Miele and was not on Twitter.
However, another neighbor, Laura Patterson, spotted the tweet and happened to know Jean. She walked over to Jean to show her how far her kind gift had gone.
“She was happy and moved that people enjoyed what she did as she looked through all the responses,” Miele added. “I’ve asked her to come around for tea and to meet Chips anytime she wants.”
