Family Brings Cat Inside — Then Realizes She’s Already There

Maia has been a member of the family since she was a kitten. She’s always been really kind and laid-back, basically going with the flow.

“Maia is a very, really wonderful cat,” one of Maia’s family members, Nieves Morán, told The Dodo.

“She enjoys bringing us her toys so we may play with them.”

Maia is primarily an indoor cat, although she enjoys spending time outside in her family’s yard on occasion. Morán’s father observed Maia walking around outdoors one day while the entrance to the yard was open. After a while, she came inside and snuggled up close to him, and he didn’t seem to mind. .

Morán’s mother went into her room to ask her a question and saw Maia cuddled up next to her.

She then proceeded into the living room, where she was surprised to discover Maia snuggled up as well.

How could Maia be in two places at the same time?

The family immediately learned that the cat in the living room wasn’t Maia after all, but rather a stray cat who had wandered into the yard and decided to make a home for himself.

Everyone was perplexed as to where this odd Maia clone had appeared. It was easy to mistake him for Maia since he seemed quite at home in the house and with the family. He looked as if he’d been there for years. When Maia observed the new cat, she seemed nonchalant, and the family suspected she and the cat had already met.

“Maia and the cat simply sniffed each other; they weren’t terrified or anything, so I guess they’d seen each other before,” Morán explained.

They decided to name the new cat Jay and set out to see whether he had a family that was seeking for him. They advertised online, distributed flyers, and had him checked for a microchip. He wasn’t microchipped, and no one ever contacted them, so they chose to adopt him.

“When they saw that the cat was not wild at all, they decided that we were going to keep it since we couldn’t leave such a lovely cat on the street,” Morán explained.

Jay has quickly become an indispensable member of the family since then. He and Morán’s father are quite close and spend a lot of time cuddling up together, exactly like they did on that first day. He also gets along well with his cat sister Maia. His family is overjoyed that he happened to stray into their yard that day and that they mistaken him for Maia. .

It was the best case of mistaken identification ever.
