Julius the cat is bold, fearless, and playful, not to mention he has the most stunning lime green eyes.

He enjoys a good cause to pursue a laser pointer and will go to great lengths for catnip. According to Erika Cole, director of Providence Animal Control, he’s the kind of cat that anybody would be happy to have — yet, strangely, Julius has been waiting for a home his whole life.

Julius, a two-year-old boy, was rescued in January after being discovered living on the streets with a severely wounded hind leg. It’s thought he was assaulted by another animal while living outside, but he was discovered barely in time. Julius’s desire to run, play, and explore became obvious once he had vet care and began to feel better.

Cole told The Dodo, “We put Julius in his own room with a view – the greatest one in the shelter.” “At night, we let him out into the lobby, and when that grew too dull, we offered him a companion, and then even more room.” We even constructed him a catio so he could roam outside safely.”

Julius is highly interested because he grew up as a stray and likes spending time on his own safe patio where he can get some fresh air. While Cole likes life at the shelter, he knows he would thrive with his own family if only people would give him a chance.

“We’re shocked Julius has stayed with us this long,” Cole remarked. “We’ve adopted cats that people can’t even touch, yet Julius still sits.”

Julius is first shy around humans, but as time passes, he warms up and occasionally requests to be petted. Otherwise, he is always on the go and enjoys any chance to play.

“He’s extremely hilarious and enjoys playing,” Cole added. “He’s loving, but he wants to be within arm’s reach, which is good with us!”

Julius has been in the shelter for almost a year, but Cole remains hopeful that the right family is out there somewhere. The rescue accepts both in-state and out-of-state adoptions, but Cole encourages families to come and meet Julius in person.

Julius would do best as the sole pet in a home, but he would also get along with kittens or small dogs. He would particularly appreciate a home with a screen porch or sunroom, since he enjoys birding and relaxing in the sun.

Julius is deserved of a happy ending after waiting his entire life for a family that will love him no matter what.

“I stay later simply to be with him,” Cole explained. “I’ve spent a lot of time talking to individuals who are interested, but he’s still waiting.”
