A 9-week-old cat arrived to the Alaska Cat Adoption Team (ACAT) with her legs twisted and asking for a family. When the rescue center learned about the feline’s situation, it contacted KAAAT of Mojo’s Hope and Alaska’s KAAATs, both of which are situated in Anchorage, Alaska, and run a program for animals with specific needs.
The kitten, Lady Purrl, was examined by a veterinarian to ensure that she was not in discomfort and that her life was not jeopardized as a result of her condition. They discovered an old lesion on the spine, which caused the kitten’s legs to twist, after examining the x-rays.
Shannon Basner, the originator of Alaska’s KAAATs, explained:
“Fortunately, the veterinarian was receptive to knowing our mission and the work we do. In Lady Purrl’s case, her quality of life was much brighter than they thought. This little nugget of adorable fluffiness has tons of courage, charisma, personality and perseverance.”
Lady Purrl was likewise malnourished, weighing only 1.7 pounds and suffering from acute diarrhea. Fortunately, as she gained strength, she demonstrated that she was a fighter. Now the inquisitive kitten climbs and runs, seemingly unaware that she is different from the rest.
She stood in the kitten-proof kennel, snuggled up close to a teddy bear, and had a calm, lengthy nap as soon as she arrived at her new home at Alaska’s KAAATs; no doubt the crooked-legged kitten felt safe.
Shannon gradually introduced her to her resident animals, Cinder the dog and HarPURR the cat, believing that it would be beneficial for her to associate with other animals. She likes cuddling up with her two best buddies and spending time together.
HarPurr and Lady Purrl both have a disorder that prohibits them from moving their hind legs. He was delighted to see her and instantly put her under his care.
Shannon explains:
“HarPURR and Lady Purrl were hanging around like the little whirlwind kittens that they are, full of excitement, life, and such a lovely lesson of how to cherish every moment, live life to the fullest, and soak up the love around you.”
Cinder, the Husky, had helped in the raising of numerous rescued kittens and was delighted to assist Lady Purrl, who wagged her tail with emotion; everyone embraced the newcomer warmly and welcomed her into their family.
The naughty cat is highly lively, and her continual purr and wonderful attitude have made everyone in her new home fall in love with her.
Shannon continues, saying:
“She enjoys curling up against your ear so you can hear the calming purr up close and personal.”
Shannon says she is constantly pleasantly surprised by the many rescues she does, and she ensures that animals with unique challenges have a brightness and an internal power that propels them forward.
She stated:
“They don’t allow anything to get in their way and show us all how to let go of what others may think is strange and embrace our unique spirit and enthusiasm for life.”
Lady Purrl’s life is now full of love and a family who will always take care of her, and while her paws will never be able to fix themselves, this will not stop her from growing up and enjoying a happy life. Lady Purrl’s particular affinity with Cinder and HarPURR made it clear that this is the home she wanted, so it will be definitive.
