We Almost Said No to This “Mean” Kitten, Now We Can’t Imagine Life Without Him

This is the story of how Lacy and Marcus met Jax, their adorable new kitten.
It all started with a picture of an angry-looking kitty who bore an uncanny resemblance to Hugo, their beloved cat who had passed away nine months prior.
Everyone initially said no, and they joked about it, but curiosity eventually got the better of them.
When Marcus agreed to go see the kitten after consistently refusing to consider other cats, she knew they had to take a look.
With a mix of excitement and nerves, they headed to the shelter. Upon arrival, they found no sign of the little guy in his cage.
The staff explained that he was in the back for being a bit of a troublemaker
Almost ready to call it quits, memories of their wild ride with Hugo, who wasn’t exactly friendly to strangers, made her hesitant to go through a similar experience again.
Despite their doubts, they decided to meet him since they were already there.
They waited in a separate room, and when Jax was brought in by the scruff of his neck, growling and screaming in fear, it broke her heart.
The staff warned them of his feral temperament, his broken tail, and his clipped ear, marked as a stray.
They were planning to release him back into the streets if he wasn’t adopted soon, a fact that tugged at Lacy’s heartstrings.
The staff left them alone with Jax, who looked so scared and sad. He wasn’t mean or trying to run away or hide.
They talked to him a bit, and within five minutes, he was curled up in her Marcus’ lap. Jax had found his person.
However, doubts still plagued her mind. What if he was mean like Hugo?
How would they fix his broken tail? Could they train a feral cat to be nice? Would he be mean forever?
After spending an hour with him, they realized they had lost track of time and needed to join a conference call.
They took the call outside the shelter in their car, and by the time it ended, the shelter was closed.
Lacy took it as a sign to sleep on it, though she didn’t sleep much that night.
She scoured every cat forum she could find, trying to learn how to tame a wild kitty and fix a broken tail.
Meanwhile, her husband remained optimistic, convinced that Jax was meant to be part of their family.
The next morning, she brought a friend along to the shelter to see how Jax would get along with someone else.
Upon arriving at the shelter, they learned that Jax had been removed for not getting along with anyone or any other animals, but the staff agreed to bring him back for another visit.
Lacy started to think it was a sign to turn back, but instead, she agreed to meet Jax again. To calm her nerves, the shelter offered a seven-day trial of fostering to adopt.
She agreed to the plan, knowing deep down that once they took him home, she would never have the heart to bring him back.
Back at the shelter, she took Jax out of his carrier and held him without any issues.
She was surprised by how calm he was, even with her friend.
When Jax finally came home and was reunited with Marcus, it was clear that he had found his forever home.
Despite his rough start, Jax turned out to be the sweetest, most affectionate little kitty they could have hoped for.
He brought immense joy into their lives, and they truly felt he was meant to be with them.
Lacy was convinced that her grandma and Hugo had come together to send them this little angel.
And although Jax’s tail is broken, everything else in his life is purr-fect now.
