In late March, Nikki, a foster mom for Wrenn Rescues, took in an extremely loveable and “very pregnant” young mama cat named Lasagna. Soon afterward, her adorable kittens became known as the “Noodle Babies.”

Wrenn Rescues serves Los Angeles and Ventura County, California. Recently, we shared the story of another mama cat named Pandora and her “Box Babies.”

Overnight, two noodles arrived in the safety of Nikki’s home. Then, the following morning, the others arrived. If they had remained on the street, who knows what could have happened to them all? Even in the warm, cozy home, two kittens didn’t make it, but 4 would have the chance to live their best lives.

Lasagna and The Noodle Babies

With the help of another foster care provider, Nikki caught a problem with one of the Noodle Babies. Little white Stellini arrived with a cleft palate, which prevented him from latching properly. Sadly, even with expert neonatal care, Stellini would pass away peacefully. Another was stillborn. Unfortunately, heartbreaking losses come with the territory for all foster care providers. Nevertheless, it doesn’t stop them from continuing to foster babies.

Thankfully, the remaining Noodle Babies would be healthy and start to thrive. And, Lasagna was a perfect mama, carefully watching her tiny ones. For Nikki, it was “the cutest thing ever” to watch the “content little family.”

  2. Top Right: Second-born boy Riccioli, at first thought a girl, the “baby koala.”
  3. Bottom Left: Rigatoni – (Toni) another little girl who “loves to snuggle in a cuddle puddle.”
  4. Bottom Right: Gnocchi –the feisty “bundle of deliciousness,” also a girl.

“I literally can’t stop watching them eat. It’s the cutest thing ever! Then to see them sack out in a milk coma ?,” said Nikki.

? Eyes Open & Noodly Personalities Emerge ?

As they grew, the Noodle Baby’s personalities emerged, and their eyes began opening. By April 9, all the baby’s eyes were open.

The baby noodle nuggets are 2 weeks old today!! They are growing fast and learning how to get around. Ravioli is already trying to make it out of the box. Before you know it we’ll be in potty training mode and weaning. Stop growing so fast little ones but also don’t.”

Sometimes, the two brothers decided to compete for the same nipple. With all the feeding, baby Gnocchi became the “epitome of a potato baby,” with a “chonky belly.” She would later become the first kitten to play with a toy, a carrot.

Cuddly Mama Lasagna

From the beginning, mama Lasagna was a very friendly and cuddly cat. As a mother, she was so caring that Nikkie called her “the best mama in the world.” Thus, Nikki has enjoyed an overall wonderful experience offering a foster home for these kitties.

“Nothing better than a mamas love ?

Soon, however, Lasagna’s days of motherhood would come to a close, and she would start a new life as some lucky person’s cuddly companion.

“This little mama is just too dang sweet!” Nikki wrote. “She was already super sweet when she came to me and has only gotten more sweet over just the little time here already. I always say ‘she’s seriously going to make someone/some family so incredibly happy.’ I don’t know exactly how old she is but my guess would be 1-2. She’s still super playful but all she really wants is love and affection.”

Lasagna Enjoy Some ‘Mom Time’

Even a caring and attentive mama like Lasagna needs to take breaks from being a mom. So, she spends some “mom time” hanging out with the humans.

“Mama Lasagna is such a delight. She’s an amazing mama to her last litter she’ll ever have (no idea how many or if she’s had any before) and enjoys coming over to hang to get some “mom time” to herself for some lovins, cuddles and play. She’s obsessed with catnip (slide 2 is her mid catnip high) but most of all she wants to be near me, touching me, or getting pets. She’ll shove her head under my hand for more if I stop ?

Helping Cats Like Lasagna

As you can see, Mama Lasagna and the Noodle Babies are lucky indeed. In another post, the foster mom shared some tips to help cats you encounter in your area.

“The sad reality is not all outdoor cats are so fortunate. If you suspect an outdoor cat is stray/feral, check for [an] ear tip (tip of ear clipped to help people recognize the street cats that have already been spay/neutered). If doesn’t have one, check with neighbors to make sure it’s not someone’s pet. Please, reach out to people who do TNR work. If you don’t know anyone, look on local Facebook groups or ask around,” she advises.

☔ Kitten Season at Shelters Everywhere ☔

In the springtime, it’s “kitten season,” when shelters everywhere struggle to care for all the kittens that arrive as the weather gets warmer.

“For now, I am so grateful to be able to help one of the many families/cats out there living in the streets. If you have ever thought about fostering, now is the time!! Kitten season is upon us, if you don’t have time for kittens there are older cats who desperately need help as well. Reach out to your local shelters/rescues.”
