Kelly first found Snickers on June 26th, 2020, while jogging along a path that cut through a cornfield a few miles from her home.

The loss of her mother a few weeks prior had led Kelly to take up running as a form of coping. Suddenly, a small kitten appeared, halting Kelly’s progress.

With no other cats in sight, Kelly carefully approached the kitten, which proved to be surprisingly sociable.

The kitten was visibly unwell, with symptoms including goopy, draining eyes, a head shake indicative of ear mites, a body covered in fleas, and a silent meow that hinted at severe throat issues.

Kelly felt compelled to carry the kitten home, where the little one comfortably nestled into her arms.

“I picked her up and held her the two miles back to my house. She just melted into my arms as soon as we got home,” shared Kelly with We Love Cats and Kittens.

Upon arrival at her house, Kelly took immediate action.

She snapped a few photos of the kitten and distributed flyers around her neighborhood, hopeful for a claim.

Additionally, Kelly bathed the kitten and scheduled a visit to the vets.

After a thorough examination and blood work, the vet estimated Snickers to be about five months old and was suffering from a sinus infection, so they started a treatment plan that involved various antibiotics.

However, when no one came forward to claim Snickers, and her health showed no signs of improvement despite numerous medications, Kelly faced a tough decision.

The options were grim: euthanasia or a costly visit to a specialist to uncover the root cause of Snickers’ ailments.

Choosing hope, Kelly opted for the specialist, embarking on a journey that revealed two large polyps within the kitten’s inner ears and behind the eyes, necessitating two major surgeries.

The first surgery was a success, removing one significant polyp.

The second surgery, however, was fraught with complications when a polyp fell into the little kitten’s throat, leading to a loss of consciousness and subsequent blindness after revival through CPR.

Faced once again with the choice of euthanasia or accepting a blind cat, Kelly chose to bring Snickers home, hopeful for a recovery that might restore her eyesight.

Miraculously, after about eight weeks, Kelly observed that Snickers was responding to visual stimuli, indicating a return of vision, a trip to the vet confirmed this.

“I was waving a toy in front of her and I noticed that her eyes were moving back and forth. I immediately took her back up to the vet for an exam, and her eyesight had indeed come back,” shared Kelly with We Love Cats and Kittens.

Now, Kelly shares her life with Snickers, a vibrant four-year-old cat who possesses a human-like personality and a remarkable affinity for mimicking Kelly’s seated posture.

“Now I have a beautiful, healthy four-year-old cat with the biggest and brightest smile.”

With striking facial markings, Snickers is not just a pet but a testament to the unique bond they share:

“She’s one of the most unique looking cats that I have ever seen with such striking markings on her face. Snickers and I both saved each other on that fateful day.”

Their meeting was serendipitous, a moment Kelly believes was orchestrated by her late mother, who knew the mutual need for companionship and healing between them.

“I’ve always felt that my mother was watching out for me. She knew I needed Snickers as much as Snickers needed me,” Kelly added.
