Is your dog bouncing around like they’ve got springs in their paws? You’re not alone! Whether you find it endearing or not, your furry friend’s habit of leaping on you isn’t uncommon. And guess what? You might unknowingly be encouraging it! We all love cuddling our pets, but sometimes we forget that those cute puppy jumps can become a real bother as they grow up. Plus, it’s not just annoying—it can also be risky. Those enthusiastic leaps can lead to scratches, bruises, or even worse, someone getting knocked over.
Take, for instance, Reddit user Dog_throwaway1’s situation with his girlfriend’s unruly young lab. The pup’s lack of training has led to constant jumping, causing frustration for OP, especially during important moments like interviews. Despite asking his girlfriend to keep the dog away during such occasions, the situation didn’t improve.

1. Hit a dog? But why? Let’s find out!
2. As an important job interview approached, OP’s father got him a tailor-made suit for a great impression.
3. OP’s girlfriend has a dog who he doesn’t like at all. The dog isn’t trained and she doesn’t put in any effort to train him either.
4. On the interview morning, while OP was getting ready he asked his girlfriend to keep the dog away from him.
5. But just as OP got ready to wear his new, tailor-made suit, the girlfriend commanded the dog to go wish him luck, in other words, she said go jump on him.
6. While the dog was in the air just inches away from jumping on OP, he involuntarily smacked him with the back of his hand. The dog fell down and the girlfriend began screaming.
7. The girlfriend called OP an AH. OP argued why did she did something he explicitly told her not to do.
8. OP shared that after all that happened, his interview went great.
By reading the title, a thousand questions would pop up in your mind as to why did OP hit a dog. You would think it is unacceptable to hit a dog no matter what. But now it is clear. OP was NTA. The dog had to be pushed back otherwise he was going to ruin the suit. Jobs are not easy to get and it is very important to make a good first impression. Imagine having dog hair all over your suit while you enter the interview room.
OP’s girlfriend is a major AH for this. He explicitly said not to do anything like that and she did the exact opposite of his request. Tells you how much she cared about his aspirations.

9. After the interview, OP called his friends and girlfriend to enjoy some beers and celebrate. She ignored his message and didn’t come.
10. OP explained to his friends what happened and they sided with him.
11. OP asked the AITA community if hitting the dog made him an AH or not.
