Woman helps paralyzed stray dog live his best life – Bennie the Double Amputee

My little Bennie – happy and naughty dog. He certainly didn’t have an easy start to life because at only seven months old, he was hit by a car while living as a stray and left to drag his paralyzed legs on the streets for months before he was rescued. He was on the other side of the world from me. But the moment, I heard his story, I just knew he was meant to be in my life.
As I waited for him at the airport and finally saw his little face through his crate, I knew Bennie was home and I could finally give him the life, he so very much deserved. After Bonnie had settled in one of the very first things I did was to take him to an amazing rehabilitation center to help him adjust to life as a double amputee. But you see dogs don’t dwell on stuff. So let’s just say it didn’t take Bennie very long to show me that he was going to be absolutely fine living life with only two legs. I would never want Bennie to feel any different than any other dog. And to be honest, in my eyes, he isn’t any different. So I always make sure to equip him with everything he needs so he can do things just the same as any four-legged dog can. We make a pretty good team.
Ben is an instant day brightener in the two and a half years that I have been lucky enough to have this little guy by my side, We have brightened so many days. We have visited retirement homes, we have gone to special sporting events where the children are in wheelchairs, but just like Bennie, they don’t let it define them nor stop them from doing the things they love to do. Bennie truly is the happiest dog you will ever meet. To be in his presence is to be smiling the entire time. Not only he’s the happiest dog you will ever meet, but quite possibly also the naughtiest.
At first, I thought you were being really cute. But then I realized you were biting the sofa. If Benny could speak, I know that the first thing he would do is thank me for giving him back his independence. And my response to him would be, thank you for changing my life in ways that I will forever be grateful and thankful to you for, I love you so much. My little bug.
