These ‘Spice Kittens’ are Just Looking for Love After Rescue in New Jersey

Are you ready for the Spice Kittens?
Rescuers in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, took part in a mass trapping effort, taking in 50 cats! Unfortunately, several cats were in such bad condition they had to be euthanized. Fortunately, many of the rescues can now start happy lives, including a litter of adorable kittens. However, some have been waiting for months to find the right home.
“It was the classic case of an out of control colony,” shared Stray Cat Relief Fund on Facebook.
Below is one of the kittens they rescued, the adorable Ginger Spice.
The Spice Kittens
After foster care, a litter of kittens named after spices was ready for adoption at around 5-6 months old. They are Ginger, Spice, Glenn, Nutmeg, and Poppy. Rescuers saved the kittens along with the mama from the large cat colony.
“An elderly woman was occasionally feeding them, but never fixed any of the 60 cats and kittens that were rescued there. Poppy and his siblings were named after spices due to their beautiful colors,” the rescue wrote.
Below is the beautiful Nutmeg.
Glenn Spice?
While Glenn didn’t get the usual spice name, he’s “an exceptionally beautiful tabby with light, soulful eyes,” they shared. These kittens get along well with other kittens, cats, and people, thanks to the foster provider’s TLC.
Glenn bonded closely with Nutmeg, as well as another kitten named Harper. As cute as they are, it’s hard to understand why they weren’t all scooped up by families.
“Believe it or not, they have been in the rescue since they were wee ones and have not had much adoption interest. Crazy right!? They can be paired together in some way but at least need another cat buddy!” they shared on Facebook.
Bonded Spice Kittens, Poppy and Spice
With luck, Poppy and his brother Spice will find a home together as bonded kittens. Both are smart orange and white tabbies who love people and other cats and kittens.
“Poppy is an adorable, affectionate orange tabby with white paws and and a white chin. He also has a white belly, a white neck and purrs all the time. He’s an extremely loving, playful kitten with a very sweet disposition. He gets along famously with other cats and kittens and always greets me when I enter the room,” they write.
Meanwhile, Spice is equally cute and friendly, with a small orange circle on top of his white head. These cuties will make someone purrfect companions.
Poppy and Spice Just Want Love
As of this writing, the rescuers shared an update on Poppy and Spice a day ago. They’ve somehow been looking for homes since early August. Fortunately, they are still together, but they look ready to find someone who will give them a loving home, like so many kittens and cats out there.
As you can see, the kittens are looking very ready to venture out of their adoption cube. It’s a little heartbreaking to see them like this, but it’s just temporary, and they are well-cared for.
“Poppy and Spice just want love . They are in the adoption cube at [the local animal hospital] but as you can see they really want love and need a home! They are such sweet kitties and we would love for them to stay together!”

Stray Cat Relief in Philadelphia
Stray Cat Relief helps cats in both Philadelphia and New Jersey, providing education and spay/neuter services to reduce the homeless cat population. Through TNR (trap, neuter, release) and other efforts, they hope to see Philadelphia become a No Kill City for stray and feral cats.
“Kindness is powerful and it only takes one person to care,” says SCRF President Karen O’Rouke.
Out-of-control cat populations often push rescuers to the limits, but they still try their best to save as many lives as possible, “one cat at a time.” You can follow them on Instagram and Facebook to learn more.
