When we leave home, we never know if that day will be the day that we may save the life of an abandoned animal. Baltimore, Maryland native Laura Cassiday had no idea that as she walked her dog, a stray cat would come up to her and want to join them. Cassiday kept on moving and eventually made it back home, the cat trailing closely after.

A little while after arriving, she heard the door being scraped and some small meows that sounded like they needed aid. When she opened it, she saw that the kitten she had brought with her had followed her and was now pleading for assistance. The woman did not want to abandon the small animal in her precarious situation because it was raining outside. This is what Cassiday emphasizes:

She was elderly, down to bare bones, and infested with fleas. She had a matted, filthy coat. Her walk was shaky and uneven, and her lips appeared rotting and painful.

In these circumstances, no one could refuse to assist a helpless animal, so Cassiday welcomed him into his house and provided for him when he most needed it. She brought him into a room, wrapped him in a towel to help him warm up, gave him warm water, and fed him. The cute cat purred a few times as a token of appreciation, eventually capturing the woman’s heart.

After adopting an older kitten she named Thomas lately, Laura now has two cats in her life—Bones and Bones. He claims that animals know when people are more accepting of them, and the cute cat felt that Laura would not forsake him. Bones was a furry little guy who needed support, but his plans did not include growing the family.

Due to the kitten’s delicate health and the pricey nature of its recuperation, Laura called the Feline Rescue Association, where she volunteers. Little Bones would stay with Laura until he completely healed and was adopted by a family who would adore him forever since the association covered all the cats.
