Cat Pretends He’s Too Fat To Fit Through Cat Door Just Because He’s Lazy

For years, a woman called Ngawai and her family believed that their cat, Mischief, was just too large to fit through the cat door.
“He used to sit outside and peek in, or scratch on the side of the cat door,” Ngawai (who requested anonymity) told The Dodo. “He never acknowledged the cat door.” He began scratching at the cat door particularly this year, and it would open slightly but he would never come through and would gaze at us.”
They just discovered, however, that Mischief had been concealing a secret.
“We began finding him inside despite the fact that the doors were shut, and then we witnessed him slipping through himself,” Ngawai explained. “But he would scratch for a long until he gave in and did it himself, as though irritated.”
In the Facebook page Cool Cat Group, Ngawai just posted about Mischief. “We’ve simply found he’s too precious and doesn’t enjoy squeezing through unless it’s really essential,” she explained in the post, which received over 700 likes.

Mischief has been with Ngawai’s family in New Zealand for nearly eight years, yet he is closest to Ngawai’s grandfather.
“His dearest friend is our grandfather,” she explained. “Whenever our grandfather is gone for more than a day, he starts acting strange.”
Mischief’s family isn’t sure how he grew so huge, but Ngawai says he doesn’t have any health issues as a result of his weight – and he’s been on a diet for years.

“He just gets a set amount every day,” Ngawai explained. “We’re not sure why he’s still so big. We do feed him treats on occasion, and he frequently slips under the table during dinner and guilt-trips the family into throwing food down to him.”
While the family is still concerned about Mischief’s health, his extra weight only gives Ngawai’s family more of him to adore — and they enjoy Mischief’s various eccentricities.

“He’s afraid of plastic bags,” Ngawai explained. “As soon as he hears the sound, he flees.” He only meows when the blackbirds steal his cookies, which happens on a daily basis. Because his tummy sways so much, he runs sideways.”
Mischief’s cat door shenanigans, on the other hand, entertain Ngawai and her family the most.
“It was funny to us all,” Ngawai added. “Even though he’s lazy and a little snobbish, everyone adores him.”
“He’s a very, very loved guy,” she continued. “I believe everyone would agree that he was meant for snuggling – he simply has a pretty weird personality.”
