An Australian Fire and Rescue saved a mama cat and six kittens who had taken refuge from a dog and gotten into a dangerous situation.

One of the busiest fire and rescue services in Australia, Fire and Rescue NSW (New South Wales), shared the news of rescuing six kittens and their mom trapped inside a home’s wall. The kittens were living in a suburb of Sydney called Beverly Hills.

Around 4:30 pm on May 23, the firefighters got a call after residents heard the kittens meowing in distress. After being scared by a dog, the mother cat sought refuge in the neighbor’s house, and all somehow got up into the ceiling. After that, all the cats scattered, ending up in various hard-to-reach places. Stuck and scared, the kittens started meowing and thankfully, someone heard them crying.

When the team arrived on the scene, getting to the kittens was tricky. First, three kittens had managed to fall into a wall cavity. Meanwhile, the firefighters needed to access a man-hole on the property to reach two other kittens. And next, they had to use a search camera to locate the remaining kittens, cutting into the wall to get them out.

Last but not least, the crew safely rescued the mother cat and one kitten from the roof.

Fire and Rescue Prevents ‘Cat-Astrophe’

On Facebook, Fire and Rescue NSW shared a video showing the rescue of one frightened kitten from the ceiling.

“What a meow-ment for these firefighters who found not one, but six kittens in a wall and ceiling cavity. In a purr-fect ending for the kittens and their mother, FRNSW crews from Hurstville were able to safely rescue all of them after being called by worried residents who heard their meows for help. Although it could have ended in cat-astrophe, all of the cats were fur-tunately rescued and are now feline fine,” Fire and Rescue NSW posted to Facebook.

Saving kittens and cats is just one of the many animals the firefighters may rescue. For example, here are two turtles and a tree frog recently saved from an otherwise unoccupied burning home.

A previous kitten rescue

Recently, we shared the story of another Australian firefighter, Matthew Hodder, who made the “catch of the century,” saving a kitten who lept from 32-feet up a tree.

Early this month, we also shared the story of Washington Firefighters who took in eight abandoned kittens. After taking the pregnant mother cat home, Lieutenant Ann Hoag went above and beyond to help the mother cat and another litter of newborn kittens.
