Debate Arises In Online Cat Forum Over People “Stealing Cats”
By admin / November 7, 2024 / No Comments / Pet Cats
There are many people that post online about cats that they found in random places outside. This website even features these posts, assuming the best intentions of the new owners. However, a Reddit user argues that some people may actually be stealing cats, especially as some of the cats “found” tend to look healthy or well-fed.
People in the comments were divided, with many agreeing, but a sizable amount defend the actions of the people rescuing cats. Several people brought to attention how sometimes even cats that “look homeless” could already have a lovely home.
A commenter, u/moody_carrot, shared their experience with how their cat went missing because their neighbor took it in while he was outside, and tragically the cat died of stress during the ordeal. In the same comment, the person said that imagine if people took home children that were roaming outside, even if they looked healthy. They argued that it was the same logic as to what people were doing here.
Another talked about how sometimes even actual strays are already being taken care of by locals, and probably even taken to the vet when needed. Additionally, these cats are already used to the outdoors, and as such will probably be uncomfortable with suddenly being taken indoors.
Multiple commenters have argued that if people want cats to not be mistaken for strays, they shouldn’t be taken outside at all. Obviously, it is a ridiculous sentiment as there are times that even an indoor cat will wind up outside accidentally or intentionally, and so it’s not a sign to take free reign over them.
