Meet MowMow!

This beloved grey tabby cat has been a source of joy and learning for her human, Kait, for over 20 years over the past two decades.

Despite her age, MowMow’s presence is as vibrant as ever, even if her stripes have faded over the years!

Kait recalls the day they first brought MowMow home at just eight weeks old.

“She was my first real pet,” shared Kait with We Love Cats and Kittens.

“I was so excited to bring her home. At first, mama was a little wild. She would steal food off of plates and run away with it, especially the cheese off the pizza!”

MowMow continued to be a bit of a ‘wild child’ – she loved winding up her humans by climbing to unreachable heights on the furniture and refusing to come down.

But thankfully at nine months old, MowMow had settled into a being calm kitty with a composed demeanor.

Despite her wild, early days, MowMow quickly became a social butterfly, eager to interact with whoever she met and never showing a hint of shyness.

She loved being held and carried around, relishing the affection she received.

MowMow’s friendly nature extended to dogs, although she was less enthusiastic about other cats.

As a foster parent for animals, her owner initially managed to foster kittens by keeping them out of MowMow’s sight.

However, MowMow eventually decided she had enough of feline company, staging a dramatic hunger strike to make her point clear.

Since then, they have only fostered dogs, usually puppies, which MowMow seems to prefer.

Watching the interactions between MowMow and the foster puppies is always a treat.

Many of these puppies have never encountered a cat before, and their reactions to MowMow’s confident greetings are often amusing.

“All of our puppies have warmed up to Mao,” shared Kait. “And being cat friendly makes them a good fit for even more potential homes.”

Introductions are always made carefully, using gates and crates to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable.

MowMow has a knack for reading canine body language, which helps her navigate these new relationships smoothly.

But she’s always eager to say hello, and sometimes finds it hard to wait until the puppies are ready to be socialized.

Over the years, MowMow has become a nurturing presence for the foster puppies.

One particularly heartwarming story is about Ghost, a shy and timid puppy who became a “foster fail” and was adopted by MowMow’s owner.

“She’s been especially nurturing with some of our fosters,” explains Kait.

“Including my pup Ghost, who is a foster fail.”

“She certainly helped Ghost come out of his shell and feel safe and welcomed in our home, and she’s done that with so many of our other fosters.”

MowMow formed a special bond with Ghost, helping him come out of his shell and feel safe.

They are often seen sharing a dog bed or lounging in sunny spots together, a testament to the deep connection they’ve formed.

Nowadays she loves her cuddle time with the puppies and especially enjoys grooming them.

And although she’s not as playful as she once was due to her years, MowMow still enjoys spending time with them all.

Her calm and quiet presence helps the puppies build confidence, making them more adoptable.
