Aggie and Arthur, two furry souls with wobbly steps, found themselves in a heart-wrenching predicament.
They were surrendered to the Anchorage Animal Care and Control in Alaska. This bustling shelter became their home for weeks on end. But fate had more in store for them.
Aggie, in particular, began to show signs of distress, her once plump frame slowly dwindling.
Concerned staff recognized her need for specialized care and reached out to Mojo’s Hope, where compassionate people specialize in caring for animals with special needs.
Aggie and Arthur cautiously embraced their newfound sanctuary.
Yet, as if sensing the warmth and safety of their surroundings, they soon let down their guard, basking in the assurance of love and care.
In the gentle embrace of the rescue, their inseparable bond blossomed into something truly remarkable.
Shannon Basner, the founder of Alaska’s KAAATs and Mojo’s Hope, witnessed their unwavering devotion firsthand.
“They are usually piled on top of one another, be it on their bed, their couch or if they really wanted to be super adorable, inside their cube of love (bed),” shared Shannon.
Both Aggie and Arthur were born with Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), a condition that may affect their balance and coordination but does little to dampen their spirits.
Despite their wobbly gait, they embrace life with a fervor that inspires all who cross their path.
“Aggie and Arthur have a moderate form of CH as they can walk, climb (with careful supervision), use litter boxes and when they feel like it, play up a storm!”
Adaptations were made to accommodate their unique needs, ensuring they could navigate their surroundings with ease.
Customized litter boxes and a carefully curated environment became their haven, allowing them to revel in mischief and merriment without constraint.
Their quirks just made them all the more lovable, endearing them even further to everyone around.
“They’re such cuddlebugs, and they adore climbing onto you, curling up by your side, purring in pure kitty happiness,” Shannon shared, her fondness for the pair shining through.
As the days melted into weeks, and weeks into months, Aggie and Arthur patiently awaited a family to call their own.
Each passing moment was brimming with hope and excitement, their yearning for a forever home evident in every purr and playful leap.
Then, like a burst of sunshine through the clouds, their prayers were answered. A kind-hearted soul, touched by their story, stepped up with an adoption application in hand.
She took the time to educate herself about CH, making sure she was ready to give them the love and care they deserved.
“We were overjoyed to see the effort she’d put in to prepare for her new family members, and how perfectly Aggie and Arthur took to her,” Shannon recalled.
So Aggie and Arthur thought they had found their forever home, but sadly, it turned out to be just a six-month stop.
Their new family struggled with litter box issues, unable to solve the problem, they made the difficult decision to bring them back to Mojo’s Hope.
At the shelter, the staff was puzzled. Aggie and Arthur had no trouble with litter boxes there, thanks to the right setup and care.
Determined to understand what went wrong, they welcomed the duo back with open arms.
It turned out that the sudden change in diet, made without consulting anyone, led to urinary issues.
But since their return, there hasn’t been a single litter box mishap. Now, these two adorable pals are patiently waiting for a new chance at adoption.
They’re inseparable, so they must be adopted together. It’s a bonus for potential families, doubling the love and cuteness.
And there’s no chance of losing track of one; they stick together like glue, a testament to their bond.
It’s heartbreaking that Aggie and Arthur have been waiting so long for a loving home, but once they find it, they’ll fill it with endless love and joy.
