House Cat Abandoned in a Park Waits Patiently to Be Rescued

A kind-hearted individual reached out to Little Wanderers NYC, a volunteer-driven animal rescue organization, after spotting an orange tabby seeking refuge from the cold.
Despite the harsh weather, this friendly tabby displayed remarkable trust in humans, yet no one came forward to claim him.
Described as affectionate but visibly distressed by the freezing temperatures, he captured the attention of the rescuers, who promptly named him Finnegan.
We Love Cats and Kittens spoke to Courtney Chandel, co-founder of the rescue:
“Finnegan is a pretty special cat. He waited patiently for rescue for months barely surviving in a public park in Queens NY.”
“Little Wanderers has seen an unprecedented number of abandoned friendly cats all over NYC,” she added.
For two months, Finnegan endured the elements, finding shelter beneath a tree stump in a Queens park, surviving on makeshift bedding.
Despite his ordeal, he greeted rescuers with open arms, seeking warmth and affection.
With determination and compassion, volunteers scoured the park to rescue Finnegan, who had momentarily vanished in search of shelter.
Thankfully, they found him nestled near tree branches, his paws tucked in to combat the cold.
With a trusting demeanor, Finnegan allowed rescuers to transport him to safety without hesitation.
Though initially bewildered by the carrier, he soon settled in, grateful for the warmth and security it offered.
“Finnegan is happy with Little Wanderers now,” shared Courtney.
“It took him no time to warm up to his new surroundings.”
After a check up with the vet, they estimated that he was around 2 years old and had not been microchipped.
They also scheduled Finnegan to be neutered as they found him to be still intact!
Little Wanderers gets unwavering support from their community, so it didn’t take long to find Finnegan a foster home, under the care of Jessica Du.
He soon settled in and showed Jessica his charming personality, his affectionate nature and his love of exploration.
“He’s the sweetest boy. I’ve only had him for three days, but I can tell he’s got the sweetest personality,” shared jessica.
He is so happy to be inside and often spends the entire day on his foster mom’s lap while she works from home.
Now finally off the street, Finnegan doesn’t need anything else! He’s happily waiting with his foster mom Jessica for his furrever home!
Finnegan was so lucky that the right people came along at the right time, sadly this isn’t the case for other abandoned animals.
Courtney spoke to We Love Cats and Kittens about this:
“Economic challenges and unaffordable veterinary care have been offered as explanations but abandoning domestic cats outside seems cruel and thoughtless.”
“Indeed abandonment can lead to criminal charges. That aside, it’s just wrong,” she added.
For whatever reason someone has to give up their pet, we implore that you seek the help of organizations like Little Wanderers NYC.
They are here to give the neediest cats the chance of a better life – just like Finnegan.
