When people deeply love their pets, they sometimes do things that seem odd to others, all to make their furry friends happy. These gestures may include quirky habits or even altering their living spaces to cater to their pets’ comfort and happiness. However, it’s crucial to strike a balance if these actions make others uncomfortable. Ensuring everyone feels at ease, including both pets and people, is essential.
Recently, Reddit user u/GeneSaw began dating someone with a delightful Alaskan Malamute. However, OP’s girlfriend has a habit that OP finds a bit off-putting – she allows her dog to lick her plate after meals. While OP adores dogs and has owned them in the past, he’s never permitted them to lick his kitchenware.
Despite thorough cleaning afterward, OP still feels uneasy about it. When he expressed his discomfort to his girlfriend, she became upset.

1. You cannot be an AH for doing something that is gross and out of order.
2. OP’s girlfriend has an Alaskan Amalmute who she lets lick her plates after she is done eating from them. OP, on the other hand, who is also a dog owner loathes this habit of hers.
3. The girlfriend didn’t understand what was wrong with this and got mad at her boyfriend after being confronted. OP says the dog still does it but not when he is around.

To be honest though, one of the comments we just went through really did make me think about this whole scenario in a different manner. Although, it is understood that human food can be poisonous to animals. Dogs don’t deal well with salt or garlic which we absolutely love in our meals. Having said that, when we go to restaurants we eat in the plates that have been washed after some other person eats in them. Who knows who has what sort of infection? Maybe the guy washing the plates at the back also has a dog who he lets lick the plates. So in that case, everything we eat can be unhygienic.
11. This is the issue, you can’t be too polite to these people.

12. Won’t be doing that from now on.

13. Yukh!
14. It is all about how you perceive this. If you think the plates are clean, then they are clean. If you think they are not, then they are not.
15. Even if the plate you eat in has been cleaned to your utmost satisfaction, the sight of a dog licking that very plate beforehand can make anyone sick.

19. I am sure she knows what the consequences would be to have her dog lick human food. She still does it because of the factor of ego.
20. This person uses their dogs’ licks for better hygiene. So weird the way this works.
