Gremlin Kitten Stripe Hatches from Fuzzy Cocoon in Foster Care
By admin / November 1, 2022 / No Comments / Pet Cats
Two kitten gremlins, Gizmo and Stripe, are on the loose in Houston, Texas. They’re rescued kittens who live with Border Collies Phoebe, Baby Blue (BB), and Aki Yamaguchi, dog trainer and artist. She’s also written two books about her dogs Jazzy and Cooper and has fostered animals over a decade.
Baby Blue is a “sassy deaf Border Collie,” and Phoebe is a “derpy wild girl” who is BB’s hearing dog and a lovable nanny to the foster kittens.
Gizmo and Stripe the Gremlin Kittens
Recently, Yamaguchi shared the “real tale of how Stripe was born.”
Mogwai Kitten
One day, Gizmo, the black “mogwai” kitten, was underneath Phoebe, the Border Collie nanny. That’s when it happened, a drop of drool/water fell on Gizmo, and as everyone knows, getting mogwai wet means trouble!
After Phoebe drooled on Gizmo, there was a fuzzy cocoon under the blanket. Soon afterward, Stripe, the kitten with a mohawk, was born.
“Don’t feed them after midnight, no matter how cute they are,” reads the caption.

When Gizmo and Stripe the Gremlins First Arrived
Now for the real-life story: Gizmo and Stripe were 4 weeks old when they arrived in their foster home. They were lost without their mother and 7 oz “fragile little babies,” Yamaguchi shared on Facebook.
“We named the black one (girl) Gizmo from the movie Gremlins as she has enormous eyes! And the other one (boy) is Stripe, also from the Gremlins. I don’t think I need to explain why we named him Stripe! Phoebe has already taken the nanny role–will post a video soon! She’s really amazing with kittens. BB is not scared of them this time, either.”
Stripe was sickly, fighting stomach issues for a long time, but he finally pulled through, and his true stripey colors emerged.
Both dogs are so gentle with the foster kittens, voluntarily giving up their dog beds and licking them like their own babies.
Black Cat Gizmo Poses in the Pumpkin Patch
When Gizmo still had baby blue eyes, she posed in the cutest photos, like this one among the pumpkins for Halloween. The photographer shared that black cats are good luck in Japan, where she’s from, and was shocked to hear about the stigma toward black cats in the states.
She and Phoebe and so cute together, and the photos are part of an adorable calendar.
“Behind the scenes. I love Gizmo’s mysterious eyes. ”
Below you can see the cutest video of Gizmo made to celebrate National Black Cat Day, October 27.
Stripe Is Thriving with Loving Foster Family
Although Stripe was very sickly at first, he transformed with four weeks of TLC and love from his foster mom, dad, and nannies, Phoebe, and BB. These little gremlins were very lucky to find such a loving family to help them each step of the way.
“Love helped,” the foster mom said, as the kitten felt safe and started to get stronger. Then, he opened his eyes, and the “real Stripe underneath his tears” emerged (see video below).
Now the Gremlin kittens are thriving and will be looking for forever homes soon. You can learn more on Instagram and Facebook.
