Athena first came into contact with Grace Redmond and her father when she lived two homes away. Athena was a cute pregnant kitty who had to deal with losing the people she cared about the most in life.

When the little child used to play outside in Grace’s father’s yard, she would observe the birds there, which drew the attention of her favorite neighbor.

Grace stated to The Dodo:

She would visit more frequently, especially after my dad came home from work because she was so amiable and my dad fed and cuddled her. When he entered, she was waiting immediately outside her door.

Since Athena and her family’s two dogs didn’t get along well, she was compelled to live outside. The little girl started hiding out on her neighbor’s porch, and it was there that she first showed indications of being pregnant.

However, because she was so thin, it was difficult to tell.

When Grace’s father went to investigate a meowing sound he thought he heard coming from beneath his porch, he discovered that Athena and her kittens had done a great job of hiding.

After a few weeks, Grace’s father shockedly saw Athena wandering alongside three kittens in his yard. Unconsciously, she went to her father’s house to try to capture and defend them when he chose to snap a picture for her daughter.

Since he already had two elderly cats that may respond adversely, Grace’s father was first not fully in favor of taking in the felines, but he eventually agreed.

Says Grace

“I went to find her three kittens on the hottest and muggiest day of the summer. They were about 8 weeks old at the time and were horrified by the catch. Upon entering, Athena followed us with joy as we made supper for all of them. While the kittens were quite wary, Athena was calm and content.

Although Athena had a lot of restless energy, she was able to settle into her new house with ease, and it appeared that she intuitively understood that living next door was part of her destiny. Grace asked a rescue organization for assistance in getting all the kittens spayed, neutered, or immunized.
