Bailey Rubal, Longhorns cheerleader and student-athlete at the University of Texas in Austin, got locked out of her home. But inside, her roommate’s clever cat Voodoo went to work, using his voodoo powers to unlock the door for her. Ok, maybe not voodoo, but it is kind of magical how this cat came through in Rubal’s time of need.

On TikTok, Rubal sits against the door after finding herself locked out. As she sits, she can hear the cat meowing as if to say, “girl, I’m tryinggg,” as one person commented.

“You can do it, you can do it, just push it down,” says Rubal.

As she listens, she smiles, hearing the cat trying his best on the other side of the door.

“Voodoo, keep trying,” she says, tapping on the door. “I know. You can do it. Keep trying.”

Then suddenly, the door flies open, Rubal falls backward, and the sleek black cat approaches her cautiously.

“Yes, Voodoo!” Rubal exclaims.

Amazingly, over 7.5M people saw the viral TikTok in just four days.

“WHY IS HE SO SMART. His little noises?,” reads the caption.

In a follow-up to the viral TikTok, Rubal explains that the cute kitty has many nicknames, including “Mr. Handsome,” and “Chicken.”

“I’ve lived with Voodoo since he’s been adopted, and I definitely feel we have that Auntie-Cat connection,” she says.

Since the cat opened the door, Rubal says he hasn’t successfully repeated the trick.

“We’ve been trying for 3 days to get Voodoo to do it again, and it’s just not happening,” she said. “I feel like it was just perfect because I was leaning on the door right when he was pulling on the handle, ’cause I heard him doing it,” she continued. “And, it was really just God’s timing.”

Although not always successful, this smartie does have a habit of opening doors inside the house. So Rubal and her roommate have to keep them locked. Thanks to the timing, the cat became famous for letting in his Auntie. According to her, he knows he’s internet famous now.

“I swear that he knows he’s viral,” she concluded.

In another TikTok, we see the cat trying to open the door again, but he doesn’t quite get it despite the temptation of treats

“He knew you were recording lol you made him shy,” said one person.

“This was the last 2.5 days…A+ for effort! He’s still a cute chicken nugget,” reads the caption.

Voodoo’s human, Daeron Brodie, is Rubal’s teammate who sometimes shares TikToks of the smart black cat.

“My boyyyy,” he replied “My baby is a STAR,” on Rubal’s viral TikTok.
