By admin / March 30, 2022 / No Comments / Pet Cats
Who wouldn’t love a custom pet drawing that helps support shelter pets and adoptions? Well, at the Great Plains SPCA in Kansas City, they are offering just that for the third year, with a small catch. Hint: It’s called the “Bad Pet Drawing Fundraiser,” and the portraits can be pretty funny, and memorable.
First, the public can post a picture of their pet on the Facebook thread and donate $20 to the shelter. Then, the team will begin the drawing, leaving it for you under your comment.
Here’s how the shelter described what you could expect in return for a donation to help the animals:
“The catch? Our team is way better at caring for animals than drawing them. Whether your drawing ends up being a masterpiece or a truly bad drawing, it’s always FUN & helps us raise money for our shelter pets!” they write.
Offering a Pet Drawing to Boost Shelter Adoptions
Thus, while helping care for animals in need, you get a fun souvenir to keep. Also, it’s a great conversation piece that will continue to encourage helping the SPCA’s efforts. Genius! So far, the shelter has seen a huge response with almost 500 comments on the thread. Thus, it looks like a great way to boost donations and interaction from animal lovers near and far.
Previously, we shared how a Pennsylvania nonprofit, Cheddar Paws began painting pet portraits to help shelter pets find homes. A group of local artists paints their pictures, and they’ve seen remarkable results. Each time the artists painted a dog, they saw a much greater chance of finding forever homes. Out of 197 dogs painted, 138 found homes, so about 70%!
‘Bad’ Pet Drawings
Below, we show some of the “bad pet drawings” posted so far, and it looks like much effort went into the artwork.
For example, look at the results for these two pups below – a fun, colorful, and playful painting.
Owen and the Cat Lounge
G. Dixon shared a picture of a cat named Owen with a wide grin.
“Owen is very excited to see his work of art! ”
And, below, we have a fabulous Tiki Cat from the “Sassy Cat Lounge.” How fun is that?
Stella the Cat Gets a Pet Drawing
This drawing of Stella the cat is so cute, signed by 7-year-old artist Roxanne.
Becks the One-Eyed Pirate Kitty
Here is “Becks a little one-eyed beauty,” posted by T. Jackson.
Below –a fun drawing with a pirate’s patch.
Dr. Miso Soup the Cat
After a donation, J. Rhodes shared a picture of this adorable cat named Dr. Miso.
“This is Dr. Miso Soup, a rescue from SARA Cats NJ, deliriously happy getting pets in her new home. So happy she drools. ”
And the results are an impressive drawing that nails the cat’s features. This certainly doesn’t qualify as a “bad drawing.”
Sammy the Mermaid Kitty Pet Drawing
After donating, P. Leonard shared their picture of Sammy, the cat.
“Here’s our kitten Sammy (formerly known as Dipper) that we adopted back in September of 2021.”
And the artist decided to make Sammy a mermaid kitty with a unicorn horn, delighting Leonard.
A Beloved Kitty Named Bootsie Boo
Another person shared a picture of their pretty kitty Bootsie Boo; a beloved adopted cat.
“He loved snuggles and sleeping on my pillow, textbooks, and me. Hes deeply missed. We lost him in 2017. This was him when he was young,” said C. Roth.
Below, see the cute and colorful drawing.
Mia, the Cat in a Hat
Another person donated and shared a picture of her cat, Mia, an 11-year-old Lynx Point Siamese.
“She’s 11 years old and loves to relax on the porch and roll in the dirt. She needs her alone time since we have two other cats that annoy her,” said Castillo.
And the amewsing results:
Merlin the White Kitty
Another person donated and shared a picture of their cat, Merlin.
“I donated because this is such a great place! I adopted Merlin from you 8 years ago ,” posted R. Scheve.
And below is a very fun drawing of Merlin.
Ally the Little Devil Pet Drawing
And finally, here is a kitty named Ally.
“This is my sweet little devil, Ally. I adopted her from Great Plains last June. Her name was Kiara then. Just donated,” said S. Evans.
And the results did not disappoint:
“Thank you so much; this is great!” responded Evans. “To me, the face looks a bit like the Grinch. That’s perfect for her because she is a little devil, although her heart isn’t two sizes too small. Kudos to the artist.”
